The ports of Mediterranean Marinas, the first in Malaga and Granada with the “S” Certificate for Sustainability

The recognition of the Institute for Spanish Tourism Quality endorses the responsible management of the group in environmental areas, social and economic.

Micro reef full of life

The Marinas del Mediterráneo Group has obtained the “S” Certificate for Tourism Sustainability, awarded by the Institute for Spanish Tourism Quality (ICTE), in recognition of its management model committed to the Sustainable Development Goals (ODS).

This distinction places the group as a benchmark in the nautical-sports sector., being the first to achieve it in the provinces of Malaga and Granada, and the second in all of Andalusia, after Puerto Sotogrande. In Spain, just 21 marinas have this accreditation.

The certificate confirms that the three facilities managed by the company—Puerto Deportivo de Estepona and Puerto de La Duquesa (Manilva), both in Malaga, and Puerto Marina del Este, In Almuñécar (Granada)— meet the most demanding environmental standards, social and economic, in line with the SDGs 7, 11 y 14, dedicated to clean energy, Sustainable communities and ocean protection.

Commitment to the environment

The group has been working for years to make its ports more efficient, comfortable and environmentally friendly. This work has resulted in numerous recognitions such as the Blue Flag, ISO certificates 9001 y 14001, or the Tourism Quality Commitment (SICTED).

Obtaining the “S” Certificate is the result of a comprehensive Quality policy, Environment and Social Responsibility, that guides each action of the group and reinforces its commitment to the principles of the Agenda 2030 of United Nations.

Three axes of sustainability

The Mediterranean Marinas model is based on three pillars: environmental, social and economic.

In the environmental field, The company has made progress in the implementation of innovative technologies that reduce its ecological footprint, improve waste management and optimize the use of water and energy. Featured projects include Spillcontrol, implemented in the Port of La Duquesa, that uses artificial intelligence to detect spills or the installation of Ocean Ecostructures microreefs in the Puerto Marina del Este, that contribute to regenerating the marine ecosystem.

In the social field, initiatives that involve employees are promoted, users and neighbors, promoting accessibility, inclusion and environmental education. On the economic level, The group maintains a solid and responsible business model that generates value in the Andalusian coastal areas, promoting quality tourism and local development.

Recognition for constant work

For Manuel Raigón, Managing Marine Director of the Mediterranean, “This certificate is the result of the constant work we have been doing for years and demonstrates our commitment to efficient management, responsible and respectful of the environment”. Raigón wanted to thank “the daily effort and dedication of the entire human team that has made this achievement possible.”.

With this new recognition Marinas del Mediterráneo consolidates its position as a reference in the Andalusian blue economy, committed to protecting the marine environment, excellence in service and balanced and sustainable growth.
